Ben Hill - Served In the OCM

I was sent an email with more sad news about another OCM missionary. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Hill family.

Here are the details:

PROVO -- A pilot is dead after his plane crashed near the Provo airport Wednesday.
The plane wreckage was discovered shortly after 4 p.m. about a half mile south of the airport's control tower on a dike that surrounds the airport.
The pilot, 30-year-old Benjamin Hill, was the only one on board. He was found dead at the scene. Emergency workers believed he was killed instantly.
Provo police said Hill was traveling north when his engine lost power about 3 miles south of the airport. He was attempting to glide the plane in when it crashed.
Hill was an adjunct instructor with Utah Valley University's aviation program, as well as a student at the university. The school said Hill was not flying UVU aircraft at the time of the accident.
Hill leaves behind a wife and two children.

There will be a funeral held for Ben on Friday, October 30th at 11:00 am at an LDS chapel in Springville. The address is: 1627 West Cadbury Lane, Springville.

ALSO - there have been memorial funds set up to help support Ben's wife and two children. You can donate at any Wells Fargo, UCCU or by going here.

New Book by Brother Anderson - Update

I mentioned back in April, at our last reunion, that Brother Karl Anderson has been working on a new book about Kirtland. This one will focus on Christ and His appearances in the Kirtland area. I am very excited for the book and know many of you are as well.

I called Brother Anderson the other day to get an update. He said he has sent it off to the publisher and they are going back and forth with the edits and revisions.... so he is hoping it will be done soon. (Soon in book terms, I found out, is not that soon... :) ) So, I will keep you all posted and let you know when we can get a copy. :)

Thank you to Brother Anderson and his sweet wife for all they do for Kirtland, the OCM and Church History, in general. I believe I can speak for anyone who has served in Kirtland and say we love you both!

A Twist on a Mission 'Reunion'

An impromptu and unique reunion opportunity for former missionaries who served in the Ohio Cleveland Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will take place on Saturday, June 27 when the Utah Valley Thunder hosts the Wyoming Cavalry in the Thunder’s American Indoor Football Association regular season finale at the David O McKay Center on the campus of Utah Valley University. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

The first 50 OCM alumni will receive two free tickets to the indoor football game. Requests, which need to include the years which the missionary served, can be sent to daytonadan@yahoo.com no later than Wednesday, June 24. Other tickets are available at the McKay Center box office.

A section will be designated for OCM alumni and their family and friends.

The Thunder’s audiocast crew of Dan Ryan and Don Nicol served their missions in Cleveland [at different times, though] and often refer to their mission experience during their call of the games.

``It usually comes down to which Cleveland sport tragedy temporarily hindered our proselyting -- mine was `The Shot ’ and I think Don’s was `The Drive’ and pretty much the Cleveland Browns in general ‘’ Ryan said. ``Both of us serving in the same mission has helped us become a unique broadcast team. We thought it’d be a good idea to end the regular season by taking the reunion aspect to a whole new level.’’

For more information about the reunion, e-mail Ryan at daytonadan@yahoo.com.

Mission Reunion Fun...

The Mission Reunion was a success. We had a good group of people drop by to say hello and visit. I am sorry I was not able to make it until the end of the reunion. Because of work obligations, I did not make it up there until 9:00, so there are not a lot of pictures. Above are the handful of pictures I took of those still around. If any of you took pictures at the reunion, please email them to me at klbarlow78@hotmail.com. That way I can post them for all to see.

Thank you to the Cutlers for setting everything up. Thank you to all of you who brought food to share as well. As many of you know, the Cutlers will soon be moving to Missouri. I will post updates on their big move as I get details. Keep them in your prayers, they need to sell their home here before moving.

I am working with Sister Cutler to compile a consolidated list of all missionary names, email address and home addresses. If you filled out your information on the paper at the reunion, I have that. Please stay tuned... I will post the names of those we do not have any information for. Once the list is up, please let me know if you happen to have any information for those listed.

Again, thank you to all who came. It is always great to see everyone and catch up on how things are going. We have had a handful of people who have had babies, moved or gotten married... stay tuned for a post soon with those updates. :)

MISSION REUNION

Dear OCMers-

President Cutler has arranged for the April 3, 2009 Mission Reunion to be held in the Highland Stake Center.

This church is located 2738 S. Filmore St.(1537 S.) Coming from the South or North traveling on I-15 to the I-80 East exit, Traveling Eastbound on I-80 to the 1300 East exit. Turn Right onto 1300 E. There is lots of construction on I-80, so watch carefully because the next off is 2000 East. and go to 2700 South (1st stop light on 1300 E) Turn Left onto 2700 S. go 2 blocks and look for the Church on the Right. Another option is take the 3300 S. exit off I-15 and go Eastbound to 1300 East turning left. Traveling northbound to 2700 S.(I believe there is a S-turn on 1300 S. before you turn Left onto 2700 S and then look for the Church with 2 blocks.

I know that you can Map quest and hopefully will.

The Reunion will begin at 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM, and again, we would ask for everyone to help with juice or pop and or a dessert or light snack of your choice.

We look forward to seeing all who come and hope for a good turn out as we are moving to Missouri after the Reunion. We don’t want the Reunions to stop and plan to come back for them if we aren’t serving a mission.

Our reason for going back to Missouri is that in Oct, 2008, we had a spiritual experience that has been ratified numerous times to us over these last 4 months, that we are to move and now! We had thought that Utah would be our “retirement home” but it seems there is still work for us to do in Missouri and so we will go back again and do as the Lord directs.

We are so grateful for Kate Barlow and all she has done to ensure the previous reunions were accomplished and we all owe her a heartfelt “Job well done, Kate.”

We hope all will help spread the word quickly and please accept our heartfelt apologies.

We love you all and hope to see as many as possible,
Earl and Hazel Cutler 801-483-2157 or 801-651-8932 or 801-651-8598

April Conference - Reunion Time!!

We will be having a reunion/get together during the April Conference Weekend. I will post an additional post with more details in a couple of weeks. For now, if you have any pictures from the mission, please scan and send them to me. I would like to have a good variety of all the OCM pictures out there for the reunion. Please email any and all pictures you would like to share to me at klbarlow78@hotmail.com. Please say something about OCM Pictures in the subject line so I do not delete it by mistake.

Thanks for all your help! :)
